Crown of the Accused
Crown of the Accused is a sculptural crown made from pewter, glass shards, brass screws, copper nails, jute rope, leather, and aged fabric—each material symbolizing a different form of punishment or perceived transgression. The piece reflects how those who act naturally, honestly, or outside rigid religious doctrine are often met with condemnation. In many religious structures, simply existing as yourself can be considered a sin. This "crown" is not a symbol of divinity, but of the suffering endured by those labeled heretics for refusing to conform. It confronts the idea that one can do no right in the eyes of the devout when authenticity is treated as rebellion.
